How does Draftly calculate estimates?

Draftly analyzes public data available online on similar bike models, their configuration, age, condition, etc. This data is cross-referenced with an internal database to produce an indicative value in the form of a range.

What does "indicative estimate" mean?

Accepted Answer

It is a non-contractual evaluation, automatically generated from aggregated data. It gives a realistic idea of the potential value of a bike in a resale context, but does not replace an expert or an in-person diagnosis.

What to do if I can't find all the characteristics of my bike?

The more you specify the characteristics (year, condition, brakes, group, etc.), the finer the estimate. If some information is missing, the tool relies on the most representative values of the market.

Why doesn't the estimate change when I add a characteristic?

Accepted Answer

Because, depending on the segment/year, the model already considers this characteristic as "normal" (implicit) on the market. Adding an option that the majority of comparable bikes have does not increase the estimated value.

Our model learns from real market prices. In some cases, adding an option doesn't move (or moves very little) the estimate for several reasons:

• Implicit option on this segment: if 80–90% of comparable bikes have it (e.g. hydraulic disc brakes on recent MTBs), it's already part of the base level.
• Range correlations: some options almost always go with a range (e.g. Ultegra Di2 group ↔ superior wheels and cockpit). Their effect is already captured by the category/trim.
• Step effects: the value moves especially when crossing a step (e.g. aluminum → carbon, mechanical → electronic). An isolated option may not be enough to change step.
• Margin of error & rounding: if the estimated impact is smaller than the uncertainty margin, the UI may display the same value or an identical range.
• Interactions: some options are especially valuable in packs (e.g. carbon wheels + high-end group). Alone, the impact is limited.
• Consistency ceilings: the estimate never exceeds logical bounds (e.g. never above new price when new), which can "absorb" a small increase.
• Limited data: when the market offers few examples for a very specific option, the model smooths its impact.

**Concrete examples**
• Mid-range MTB 2021+: adding "hydraulic brakes" doesn't move the price—it's already the standard.
• Equipped urban e-bike: integrated luggage racks/lighting are expected → marginal effect.
• High-end road: "carbon wheels" can move the estimate especially if the whole (frame + group) is consistently high-end.

**What to do if it surprises you?**
• Check that the key characteristics (type, group range, frame material, condition, year) are correct: these are the ones that weigh the most.
• Look at the range: the impact may exist without changing the central value.
• If the estimate seems really inconsistent to you, tell us: it helps us retrain the model and refine edge cases.

Does Draftly use artificial intelligence to estimate bikes?

Yes. Draftly uses statistical algorithms and artificial intelligence (AI) models to analyze bike listings and produce price estimates.

We use AI notably to:
– understand descriptions written by sellers,
– automatically identify the type of bike, its condition, etc.,
– propose an estimate based on comparable market data.

These estimates are given for information only and do not constitute a contractual value.

Does AI make decisions for me?

No. Draftly makes no automatic decision with legal or commercial effect.
You remain entirely free to use or not use the proposed estimate, which is there to help you make an informed decision.

Are my data used to train the AI?

Accepted Answer

No. The information you enter (like a description or model) is not reused to train models.
We use already trained models (like GPT) via secure APIs, without storage or resale of your data.

Can I know how an estimate is calculated?

We work to make the estimation process as transparent as possible. It is based on:
– the technical characteristics of the bike,
– its condition estimated from the text,
– comparisons with similar bikes sold recently.
We regularly update our model to improve it.

Are my data stored?

By default, we collect no personal data during simple navigation. If you accept audience measurement cookies via the banner, some analytical information may be processed by Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity (see our Privacy Policy).

When you contact us via the form, we collect the information you transmit to us (e.g. name, email, subject, message) only to respond to your request. This data is neither resold nor used for advertising purposes, and you can request its deletion at any time.

Where do the data used come from?

Draftly collects and analyzes only data freely accessible online. This data is used as part of statistical processing aimed at producing price estimates and market analyses.

We do not republish original content as is, and do not disseminate any confidential, protected or sensitive information. All collected data is restructured, normalized and enriched to provide independent added value.

In accordance with Article 5 of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), Draftly neither collects nor processes any personal data.

Furthermore, Draftly respects the law applicable to database producers (articles L341-1 et seq. of the Intellectual Property Code). We undertake not to extract or substantially reuse the content of a protected database.

Can the estimate be wrong?

Like any statistical model, Draftly relies on the quality and quantity of available data. Estimates may vary depending on configurations, actual condition, or rarity of the bike. This is why an indicative range is always proposed.

The estimate is automatic and constitutes neither an expert opinion nor a purchase commitment. However, you can contact us if you identify a manifest problem.
